Look at your hand and notice the control you have over it. Every movement is controlled by you. Eventually that control will be gone. Its a strange feeling really. Now really look at the people you walk by on a regular day, look at all the cars on the road when you are stuck in traffic. Notice how you got to be where you are; in your car, waiting for traffic to move. Now think how everyone had their own stories of how they got there. If you are like me and think what you see is basically a first person view of your life as a movie, everyone has their own first person movies being made. All of that is perspective; how other people view things are just as important as ever. At some point everyone needs to notice the role they have in other people’s lives. when you are happy to see someone, or to walk past someone you like, there can be someone else who is happy to see you or walk by you just like you. Too many times will people abuse the time they have here just to make it more exciting at the expense of shortening it. My question is; why?
How I view standardized tests
Ask anyone on the street how often they use high school math, most likely they will give a depends statement. They will say something along the lines of “well percentages I use every day when i go eat lunch, buuuuut i never have found a time to use trigonometry.” Then why are subjects like trigonometry and geometric patterns a part of a test showing general knowledge? Ask anyone how their English is, just a random person on the street. I guarantee at least a fourth of the people you ask will say “it is well”. Now i understand the reason why english and reading should be a part of standardized tests so i will lay back on that. What i dont like most of all is why is it a measure of general intelligence? Its a measure of specific intelligence based off of what we should know. Just because we are not very good at math or english does not mean we are not intelligent. For all colleges know the person with a low score could be a genius when handling electronics. The one point then rises “its a test to show if they will survive in college”. High School continuously tests for that possibility. at least it agrees with what the kid actually wants to take. Im not saying we should get rid of standardized tests, i just dont like how they have become a label for students.
